Elevation, we have a GREATER opportunity to support the release day of Pastor Steven’s new book AND bless children in need at the same time!

GREATER Day is September 4. Starting at 9:00AM at Elevation Matthews we will be packing backpacks for children all across America all day long. For every book sold, a child in need gets a backpack. We are partnering with great non-profits to support students headed back to school locally as well as in cities like Seattle, Oklahoma City, Columbia, SC and more. The event will be broadcast live on GreaterBook.com and ElevationNetwork.com.

During this special 12 hour broadcast, you’ll have the opportunity to hear from Pastor Steven as he goes behind the scenes and describes the heart and vision of GREATER. Also, you will get a sneak peek of the new GREATER short films series, hear songs from the new Elevation Worship album Nothing Is Wasted, and be a part of Skype interviews with Pastor Steven and other nationally known church leaders like Perry Noble, Craig Groeschel, and Mark Driscoll. The Elevation staff will also be showing you the practical steps to walk your church or ministry through a GREATER series using the GREATER Church Challenge Kit.

You can sign up to serve on GREATER Day now. Sign up for one hour, or more. We’ll be rotating shifts to give everyone a chance to be a part of GREATER Day.

We hope you can join us to serve at Matthews or on the Elevation Network to celebrate the release of this book with our church family.

Everyone Loves a Parade

What are you doing this Labor Day Weekend?  The Matthews Alive Parade is the largest Labor Day parade in the Southeast, so it is a great venue to showcase our local nonprofits.  Volunteers can show support for organizations, including outreach partners Matthews Help Center, Christ Our Shepherd and the Matthews Free Medical Clinic, by volunteering to serve as representatives as they walk the parade route.  Raising awareness for nonprofits provides much needed exposure of the agencies in our community and the resources they provide.  Sign up to be a part of this family-fun event!

Letter from Zack

Interest is building for our new M1 Initiative – a challenge to Elevation adults to step up to meet a critical shortage of mentors in our school systems.

Pastor Steven launched the challenge this past weekend, and today, we had more than 1,500 requests for more information.

If you turned in a card, you’ll be receiving communication from us this week about upcoming training opportunities.

Our first one is this Sunday, 11:30am at Elevation University.   Training sessions will run through September, with the first volunteers ready for launch into schools in Mecklenburg, Union, Gaston, and York counties in three weeks.

Most of our volunteers will go to serve with A Child’s Place, serving homeless elementary school children in Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools.

Some of the students we’ll have the opportunity to reach are teens who’ve struggled with unique challenges, like Zack – who wrote us a letter to share his story.  Thank you, Elevation for BEING the change ONE child is looking for.

Mentor One Child – M1 Initiative Launch

Thank you, Elevation Church for your commitment to serve and empower children this fall.

In week three of our series “I know He is, But Who am I?” Pastor Steven Furtick announced we are committed to sending 1,000 Elevation mentors into our region’s schools in the 2012-1013 school year.

He pointed us towards this scripture about putting our faith into action:

“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”  (Hebrews 11:6)

Pastor’s point was “It may be costly to do God’s will, But I am confident in his reward.”  Truly in this case, the responsibility will be the reward, as not only will we change lives through this initiative, our lives will be changed.

At every Elevation location this weekend, hundreds of you stepped up to say “Yes, I’m interested in learning more about mentoring a student.”

By Sunday evening, 1,470 people had turned in cards seeking a spot in an upcoming training session.

If you didn’t get a chance to stop by the orange tent and sign up this weekend, there’s still time.  You can sign up this coming weekend at any Elevation location, OR click the green M1 Initiative box to go to an online signup form.  If you did sign up, expect to hear back within the week about options this month for your training session.  If you’d like to get a head start on being a great mentor, take a look at this Newsweek primer by Jonathan Alter called “Mentoring Works”.

Saturday Student Outreach Events Expected to Exceed 2,400
Community Service Hours

CHARLOTTE, NC – A three-day Elevation Church “Student Takeover” event begins Friday night, 6pm at the U.S. National Whitewater Center. More than 900 students are registered for the weekend events. Three hours of free play time for the students at the Whitewater Center will culminate in a 9:30pm concert led by Elevation Worship.

Saturday starting at 10am students will leave from four locations around the region to arrive and work in a blitz of community service that’s expected to surpass 2,400 service hours. Chris Allen, Elevation Student Director said, “We are committed to empowering the next generation.”

Students will make 2,000 sandwiches at 2xSalt Ministries to feed an expected spike in our homeless population during the Democratic National Convention, they will lead a community picnic and sports camp for Rock Hill’s A Place for Hope community on Blackmon Road, and lead a landscaping and cleanup project for Blessed Assurance adult care home in Matthews.

Pastor Steven Furtick and his wife, Holly launched Elevation Church in 2006 with seven other families from Shelby, NC. Since that time, the church has grown to more than 11,000 in regular weekend worship experiences at six locations across the Charlotte area. A seventh location in Gaston County launches September 9.

Ranked by Outreach Magazine as the second-fastest growing church in America, Elevation this summer also announced its first International location in Toronto, Ontario. That campus is set to open in spring 2013.
