Investing in People

As we push forward into a beautiful holiday season, I’m blessed to share with you some amazing opportunities to serve our city, in Jesus’ name.

If you click the SERVE button to head over to our Outreach events page, you’ll see 30 opportunities with 9 different outreach partners to share God’s blessings with those in need this Christmas season.

We are adding opportunities almost every day.  Everything from processing shoe boxes with Operation Christmas Child to greeting guests at the largest one-day free dental clinic in the state, to shopping for Christmas gifts with a homeless child, and wrapping and delivering gifts for local cancer survivors.

If you’re feeling stressed already about your to-do list this holiday, there is no better way to get your mind off yourself to focus on what really matters.  Sign up today!

Your generosity

The buzz on Twitter today will be all about #GivingTuesday.

After Black Friday and Cyber Monday, it’s a great idea to bring us all back to what matters during this holiday season.

Hint… it’s not about the shopping.  :)

I like how Mashable is suggesting you could snap a photo of yourself with a note saying what you’re doing on #GivingTuesday.  Our eGroups are already serving all over our city this month in response to our #BannerYears series, so we look forward to seeing your photos.  Be sure to let us know on Twitter by including @ElevOutreach in your tweet.

If you’re looking for ideas how to serve someone today, check out our events page.  If you’re age 13+ you can join us 9-1 at the Operation Christmas Child processing center to pack shoebox gifts for children in need all over the world. Hands on Charlotte is looking for age 14+ volunteers to help teachers shop for supplies at Classroom Central in the afternoon, and homework tutors are needed at the Sugar Creek library from 5:30-6:30pm.

Some of you are serving with our #M1Initiative on your #GivingTuesday, tell us about that.  We’ve been hearing some really encouraging stories about the relationships you’re making with children in our city.

Maybe on this #GivingTuesday you’ve been waiting for an opportunity to take a trip to serve outside the U.S. and outside your comfort zone.  One of our outreach eGroups led by Steve Esposito is headed to El Salvador January 18-27 and they have a few spots left on their roster.  Volunteers need to raise $1,600 for the trip – it includes lodging, airfare, etc.

Steve says, “I am looking forward to serving the needs of poverty stricken families throughout El Salvador by building safe affordable homes in Partnership with Habitat International.”  It’s a great opportunity.  Let us know via Twitter or in the comments section here on the blog and we’ll connect you to Steve.

And remember, it was just six months ago that we completed the Orange Initiative – a promise to serve 100,000 hours in one year in our city.  Get inspiration from the video below and tell us about your #GivingTuesday!

New Volunteer Opportunities!

We hope you had a phenomenal Thanksgiving.  Elevation volunteers were all over our city this past week, serving 1,000+ neighbors Thanksgiving meals and sharing time together.

This week, as you look ahead to the rest of the holiday season, you can continue that spirit of gratitude by giving of your time in service to our community.  From supporting our local schools, to building boxes of Christmas joy, to supporting local dentists offering help to neighbors who can’t afford quality dental care… There are new opportunities to serve on the Elevation Outreach events page.

We’ll also be adding opportunities to serve in New York and New Jersey in the wake of Hurricane Sandy.  To keep in touch with us, you can subscribe to this blog and be the first to know about upcoming opportunities.

Thank you for serving with us!
