“As each of us have received a gift, use it to serve one another.” – 1 Peter 4:10

Elevation Church and Charlotte Family Housing, one of our strategic outreach partners, have an exciting and unique volunteer opportunity to serve homeless families in our community. Through the week of August 19th – 23rd, there will be many openings to serve these families at Hawthorne Place.

Hawthorne Place is a housing shelter for families facing homelessness in the Charlotte area. The shelter is owned and run by Charlotte Family Housing, which is an organization dedicated to empowering homeless families to reach a place of self-sufficiency for the long term. Hawthorne Place houses seven families who are all screened beforehand.

Every third week of the month, Elevation has dedicated our service to this outreach partner through two different opportunities:

The first of these is a sleepover with the residents! Every night, Sunday through Thursday, we need two volunteers to stay from 8:30 PM to 6:30 AM to open the door for residents coming in late from work and to provide assistance to the families when needed. We encourage Elevation families to consider volunteering together during this week. Christa Corsi, one of our amazing volunteers, tells us, “Bring one of your children to the sleepover with you – they will be begging you to do it again and it makes a lasting impression on them.”

The second volunteer opportunity is great for groups. On that Sunday afternoon and Tuesday night, Elevation will also provide meals to the seven families at Hawthorne Place. This is a great time to invest in the lives of families by serving food, spending time with residents, and playing with the kids. Christa Corsi informs those wanting to serve that, “The joy of this opportunity is getting to spend time with the families – particularly the children!”

We would love to see families and eGroups come together for both of these chances to serve. Sign up to volunteer today!
